Why this Hike
This day hike in the Australian Alps offers lakeside lunch spots, rock scrambling and breath taking views of Mount Hotham and Mount Feathertop. Taking you over Eurobin Creek, past Lake Catani and up to multiple lookouts, this hike offers challenge and reward which is perfect for those looking to hike in the Alps but avoid camping overnight. Note that this walk includes rock scrambling.
Track Notes & Overview
Starting at the Gorge Day Visitor Centre, this hike follows the Gorge-lake Catani track past Billisons lookout that looks out towards Mount Feathertop and Mount Hotham and continues along Lake Catani. From the lake you will take Chalwell Galleries Track which you will be required to rock scramble and squeeze through narrow spaces to reach the Lake-side walking track a few hundred metres past the scrambling rocks. After walking about 1.5 kilometres on this track you will reach Mount Buffalo Road which you will follow past Grossmans Mill Picnic Area, past the Picnic area you will link up with Monolith track which you will follow to complete the hike through the forested gully past the Monolith Lookout turn off.
